Problem Overview
Users often struggle to manually estimate the correct portion quantity and volume while adding ingredients. This leads to inaccurate entries, guesswork, and repeated adjustments, especially when they don’t know the standard portion size for certain items. Even when users change the quantity multiple times, the system currently offers no intelligent assistance, making the process time-consuming and confusing. To solve this, the product needs a feature that can observe the user’s activity, estimate the portion quantity using AI, and provide a clear, confidence-based value after the user is done adjusting. This ensures smoother decision-making, reduces cognitive load, and improves overall efficiency within the ingredient workflow.
Key Challenges Identified
Users Struggle to Understand Nutritional Value
Many users want healthy choices but don’t know what each dish contains—calories, macros, allergens, etc. With limited clarity, they often abandon orders or choose randomly.
Portion Size Confusion
Users often find it difficult to know how much to order—small vs. regular vs. large—especially for bowls, sides, and drinks.
Complex Meal Customisation
Healthy apps often offer too many customization choices (add-ons, swaps, toppings), overwhelming the user.
Users Want Trust & Transparency
Food quality, source of ingredients, and preparation hygiene matter more in healthy services—but users rarely see this information.
Cross-cultural Food Preferences
Switzerland has both locals and expats with different food expectations.
Solutions
Simplified Nutrition Display
We redesigned the nutritional display with colour-coded icons and simplified labels so users can instantly understand calories, macros, and allergens without scrolling.
Guided Portion Estimation
Portion estimator was introduced to predict ideal serving sizes, helping users choose the right quantity with confidence.
Streamlined Customisation Journey
We restructured the customisation journey into clear steps with visual indicators, making add-ons, substitutes, and preferences easy to select.
Clear Ingredient Source Display
A clean ingredient-origin module was added, showcasing sourcing, freshness levels, and hygiene standards to build user trust.
Region-Adaptive Menu Personalisation
Personalised menu variations were introduced to adapt the experience for both local users and international customers in Switzerland.
Our Impact
“When we partnered with FeelEat, we noticed that users loved the concept but struggled with the actual experience. Nutritional details were hard to read, portion sizes felt confusing, and the customisation flow was overwhelming. There was also limited clarity on ingredient origins and delivery status, which affected user trust. Our goal was to remove this friction. We simplified the nutrition interface, added an AI-based portion estimator, and redesigned the customisation steps to feel guided and intuitive. We introduced a transparent ingredient-origin section and built a predictive real-time delivery tracker. To improve meal discovery, we added personalised recommendations based on taste and dietary preferences. In the end, our solutions turned a complex experience into a system that feels clear, trustworthy, and effortless — fully aligned with FeelEat’s vision of simple and transparent healthy eating.”
