Problem Overview
In modern workplaces and shared spaces, employees and users often face challenges in accessing fresh, ready-to-eat meals efficiently. Traditional cafeterias or meal delivery systems can be time-consuming, limiting, and inconsistent in offering healthy, high-quality options. Users frequently encounter long queues, delayed orders, or difficulty in navigating complex meal options. For organizations, managing meal logistics, tracking inventory, and ensuring a seamless user experience can be resource-intensive and prone to errors. Manual or semi-automated systems often lack real-time data on stock, consumption patterns, and payment, making it harder to optimize operations.
Key Challenges Identified
Time-Consuming Meal Selection
Users often spend too much time browsing menus or waiting in lines to pick meals.
Limited Personalization for Dietary Preferences
Users may struggle to find meals that match their dietary restrictions or taste preferences.
Inventory Management Inefficiencies
Tracking stock manually leads to errors, meal unavailability, or waste.
Payment and Checkout Delays
Traditional payment methods slow down the ordering process, causing frustration.
Inconsistent User Experience Across Locations
Different workplaces may have varying systems, creating confusion for users.
Solutions
Instant Self-Service Ordering
The kiosk app allows users to scan their badge or QR code and instantly browse meals with clear visuals and descriptions, making meal selection quick and effortless.
Smart Filtering & Recommendations
The app provides filters for dietary preferences (vegan, gluten-free, etc.) and uses AI to recommend meals based on previous choices or popular options.
Real-Time Inventory Tracking
The kiosk app syncs with the smart-fridge system to display available meals in real-time, alert administrators when stock is low, and reduce food waste.
Seamless Integrated Payment
Users can pay instantly using their badge, QR code, or integrated digital wallets, completing transactions quickly without queueing.
Unified Interface & Analytics Dashboard
The kiosk app provides a consistent, intuitive interface at all locations, while the admin dashboard offers analytics to track usage patterns, ensuring smooth operations everywhere.
Our Impact
"As the team lead for the FeelEat Kiosk App, my primary responsibility was to ensure that our solution addressed both the end-users’ needs and the operational challenges of managing workplace meal services. We wanted to create a seamless experience that allowed users to quickly browse, select, and purchase meals, while also providing administrators with real-time insights into inventory and usage. Our approach was guided by empathy—we observed the daily pain points of employees struggling with long lines, limited meal options, and slow payment processes. At the same time, we focused on operational efficiency, making sure that the smart-fridge ecosystem could be managed with minimal manual intervention. By leading a collaborative design and development process, we were able to integrate intuitive self-service interfaces, smart recommendations, and streamlined payment options. Our goal was to not just build a kiosk app, but to redefine how workplaces access fresh meals—making it faster, smarter, and more personalized."
