What is the Happy Fridge app?
Happy Fridge is FeelEat's smart fridge app for iOS and Android, built by CODT Technologies. Customers set their diet and allergies, browse their location's menu, open a connected fridge by scanning its QR code, scan each jar they take and confirm. The meal is paid from a prepaid balance.
There's no cashier and no card terminal, so the fridge can sell at any hour.

How does a smart fridge app take payment with no cashier?
In a smart fridge app like Happy Fridge, the customer's phone does the cashier's job. The door opens for a signed-in customer, every jar carries a QR code, and the meal is paid from a balance topped up in advance. Nobody has to stand at the fridge to take the money.

Building a smart fridge app since 2017: what changed
CODT Technologies has worked on Happy Fridge, FeelEat's smart fridge app, since 2017, and the same team still ships every release. The one big rebuild came in 2023, when two WebView apps became a single Flutter codebase. Today the app runs on NestJS with MySQL and Redis, and payments go through Datatrans.

Who built the FeelEat Happy Fridge app?
CODT Technologies, FeelEat's software partner since 2017. We built the iOS and Android app, the scan-to-unlock flow, the prepaid balance and its top-ups, the menu and the scheduled fridge checks, and we ship every release. In all, we have built 9 FeelEat products.
How do you pay at a FeelEat smart fridge?
With the app. Tap Unlock Fridge, scan the QR code on the door, take your meal and scan the code on its jar. The cart shows what you scanned. Tap Confirm transaction and the amount comes off your prepaid balance. The app then shows the new balance.
Is a smart fridge or a canteen better for a company?
They do different jobs. A canteen serves hot meals to many people at set hours and needs staff on site. A smart fridge needs no cashier and can sell at any hour. If your site is too small to fill a canteen, or people eat outside its hours, pick the fridge.
Why does Happy Fridge see about 90% less theft than honour-system fridges?
Honour-system fridges trust people to pay after they take a meal. Happy Fridge opens its door for a signed-in account, so every opening is tied to one person, and each jar is scanned into that person's cart before the purchase is confirmed.
Which payment methods can I use to top up?
Visa and Mastercard, TWINT, PostFinance Card and E-Finance, Reka, gift cards, PayPal, Apple Pay, a bank transfer, or a voucher you scan in the app. Datatrans processes the payments. Each purchase is then charged to the prepaid balance, and the app shows what is left.
What is the NFC badge for?
You link an NFC badge to your account in the app. If you'd rather not use your phone, hold the badge to the reader of the FeelEat kiosk on the wall beside the fridges: you're signed in and the fridge opens by itself. Take your meal, scan what you took, confirm, and the amount comes off your prepaid balance. The same badge signs you in at the TapTime attendance terminal.
Can the app hide dishes that contain my allergens?
Yes. Tick your allergies and food intolerances in the app, then choose: hide those dishes, or show them with a warning icon. Food preferences work the same way for dish types (fish, vegan, vegetarian, meat and poultry), so only the types you eat appear in your menu.
Does FeelEat see each fridge's temperature and stock?
The operations team does. Scheduled checks in the backend send it each fridge's temperature alerts and stock readings, so a problem gets noticed without a site visit. Customers never see those readings; their app shows their location's menu.
What is the Happy Fridge app built with?
The current app is Flutter, one codebase for iOS and Android, rebuilt in 2023. The backend is NestJS on Node.js with MySQL and Redis, and payments run through Datatrans. The first version, in 2017, was a pair of Android and iOS WebView apps.
